The current maintenance yard is located in an urban development area where the Rotterdam authorities are planning to build a new residential area (Parkzicht). After intensive negotiations with the Rotterdam authorities, agreement was finally reached on a site for the new building in Blindeweg, right next to the new Betuwe route and easily accessible by rail from de Maasvlakte and Kijfhoek.

The new maintenance yard is specifically intended for maintaining freight locomotives, including for example:

  • Short-term maintenance (scheduled and clearly-defined work);
  • Service work (repairing breakdowns);
  • Projects (refits and systems installations).

According to the project schedule, the specification and completion of the final design will be ready in 2008. Building work starts in April 2009 and the new complex will be commissioned mid 2010.
